Second Virial Coefficients for Nonspherical Molecules and Their Experimental Measurements
The virial coefficients can be obtained from statistical mechanics in connection with the intermolecular potentials. The intermolecular potential of polyatomic molecules is usually assumed to consist of a spherically symmetric component plus a contribution due to asphericaity of the molecular charge distribution. In this study, the second virial coefficients have been calculated for N2...
متن کاملRecovering Robin’s Coefficients from Boundary Measurements
We consider the problem of determining the heat exchange coefficient of some specimen material, by prescribing a flux on some part of the boundary, and measuring the temperature on some other. An identifiability result is proved, for Robin’s coefficients which are continuous functions with some negative lower bound. Both a local and an almost global Lipschitz stability results are established. ...
متن کاملA Case–Crossover Study of Wintertime Ambient Air Pollution and Infant Bronchiolitis
UNLABELLED We examined the association of infant bronchiolitis with acute exposure to ambient air pollutants. DESIGN We employed a time-stratified case-crossover method and based the exposure windows on a priori, biologically based hypotheses. PARTICIPANTS We evaluated effects in 19,901 infants in the South Coast Air Basin of California in 1995-2000 with a hospital discharge record for bron...
متن کاملFission decay rates determined from a quantal transport equation
The decay of a metastable system is described by extending Kramers' method to the quantal regime. For temperatures above twice the crossover value we recover the result known from applying Euclidean path integrals to solvable models. Our derivation is not restricted to a linearly coupled heat bath of oscillators, and thus applicable to nuclear systems.
متن کاملShort-term sediment accumulation rates determined from Eocene alluvial paleosols
A new method uses alluvial paleosols to calculate sediment accumulation rates for thin (25 m) stratigraphic intervals and allows the reliable interpolation of ages for stratigraphic levels within a thick stratigraphic interval bounded by established dates. Sediment accumulation rates calculated for a 650 m composite section in the Eocene Willwood Formation of Wyoming span time intervals ranging...
